Nice Festivals, Beaches & Events

Experience Nice's legendary event calendar—from the wild February Carnival and Menton's Lemon Festival to the world-famous Jazz Festival in Cimiez, summer beach life, and spectacular New Year fireworks over the Baie des Anges.

  1. 1

Carnaval de Nice – February Festivities

Nice's Carnival, held every February, is among the world's great celebrations—second only to Rio and Venice in size. Giant papier-mâché floats and grotesque masked figures parade along the Promenade des Anglais and Place Masséna in the Battle of Flowers, showering spectators with mimosa blossoms and confetti.

  2. 2

    Nice Jazz Festival – July

Founded in 1948, the Nice Jazz Festival in Cimiez Gardens claims to be the world's oldest jazz festival. Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, and Ella Fitzgerald performed here. Today the multi-day summer festival draws global headliners in an outdoor setting amid Roman ruins and Matisse's beloved garden.

  3. 3

Fête du Citron – Menton Lemon Festival

The neighbouring town of Menton, 30 km east, holds its Fête du Citron every February alongside Nice's Carnival. Elaborate sculptures made entirely from lemons and oranges fill the Biovès Gardens—it takes around 145 tonnes of citrus fruit to construct the themed displays each year.

  4. 4

Nice Beaches & Water Sports Scene

Nice's famous pebble beaches line the Promenade des Anglais with both public stretches and private concessions renting loungers and umbrellas. The clear Méditerranean water invites paddleboarding, kayaking, and snorkelling; boat tours run to the Îles de Lérins off Cannes and scenic coastal caves.

  5. 5

    Nikaïa Arena & Cultural Venues

Beyond festivals, Nice sustains a rich cultural calendar: the Opéra de Nice presents lyric opera and ballet in a Second Empire hall, the Théâtre National de Nice stages contemporary drama, and the Palais Nikaia hosts major rock and pop concerts. The city's cultural life reflects its cosmopolitan, year-round-resident population.

  6. 6

New Year's Eve on the Promenade

Nice's New Year fireworks launched from Château Hill reflect off the dark sea in a spectacular double display. The Promenade des Anglais fills with hundreds of thousands of revellers for one of the Riviera's most dramatic countdown celebrations, followed by a weeks-long winter festival market at Place Masséna.
