Sousse Ribat: The Islamic Coastal Fortress
The Sousse Ribat (Islamic fortress-monastery, 821 AD), the most completely preserved single Aghlabid ribat in Tunisia and the most dramatically positioned single Islamic coastal fortress in North Africa, served as the most militarily strategic single defensive position against Byzantine naval raids and became the most artistically used single Tunisian film location (Monty Python Life of Brian and Jesus of Nazareth were both partly filmed here).
