The trail follows the Waikato River north from town, passing through riverside plantings of native flax, cabbage trees, and harakeke.

Aratiatia Rapids Viewpoint
The Aratiatia rapids are released from the dam several times daily — when the gates open, the dry rocky gorge suddenly fills with a roaring white-water torrent.
