The Freedom 1843 Shiraz block at Langmeil is the oldest Shiraz vineyard in the world — planted by Friedrich Kleemann before the gold rush, the gnarled vines produce tiny quantities of intensely concentrated fruit from unirrigated sandy loam.

Elderton Command Single Vineyard
Elderton's Command Shiraz vineyard in the Marananga sub-region contains Shiraz planted around 1894 — the Command single vineyard wine, with its powerful fruit and decades-long ageing potential, has become one of Australia's most celebrated Barossa reds.

Torbreck RunRig Vineyard Marananga
The Marananga sub-region around Seppeltsfield contains some of the Barossa's oldest Shiraz and Grenache — Torbreck's RunRig vineyard draws on fruit from century-old vines in this pocket of deep sandy loam soils.

Greenock Sub-Region Old Vines
The Greenock district in the northwest Barossa has the highest concentration of old Shiraz vines in the region — the poor, sandy soils force the vines to struggle, producing small quantities of intensely flavoured berries from plants over a century old.

Stonewell Shiraz Block
The Stonewell sub-region produces Barossa Shiraz of particular richness — the deep, rich soils along the Stonewell Road were among the first planted in the 1840s, and the Peter Lehmann Stonewell Shiraz from this area ages for 30 years.

Barossa Old Vine Charter Display
The Barossa Old Vine Charter registers and protects the oldest vines in the region — vines over 35 years (old), 70 years (survivors), 100 years (centenarian), and 125 years (ancestor) are categorised and their wines labelled, a world-first system for recognising vine age.
