Kaikōura Seafront Start
The walkway begins at the Kaikōura seafront, where the Seaward Kaikōura Range rises dramatically 2,600 metres directly behind the town — one of the world's most striking coastal mountain backdrops.

Fyffe House Heritage Site
Fyffe House (1844) is built on whale vertebrae used as foundations — an extraordinary reminder of the whaling era that drove the town's early economy and nearly exterminated the local sperm whale population.

South Bay Seal Colony
New Zealand fur seals crowd the rocky reef at South Bay — hundreds of animals hauled out in all states of relaxation, completely unconcerned by passing walkers on the track above.

Peninsula Tip Viewpoint
The tip of the peninsula gives views in every direction — mountains behind, the open Pacific ahead, and the continental shelf dropping steeply just offshore, which is why Kaikōura's marine life is so exceptional.

Offshore Canyon Viewpoint
A submarine canyon reaches within 500 metres of shore, delivering cold, nutrient-rich water to the surface — the reason sperm whales, dolphins, and seabirds concentrate here year-round.

The high point of the walkway gives the classic Kaikōura view — the peninsula curving into the sea with the Seaward Kaikōura Range snowfields dominating the sky behind the town.
