Sanctuary of Truth
The Sanctuary of Truth (Wang Boran) is the most extraordinary building in Pattaya — the massive wooden temple structure begun in 1981 and still under continuous construction, planned to reach 105 metres in height, is covered from base to pinnacle with hand-carved wooden sculptures depicting Hindu and Buddhist cosmological figures, Thai historical scenes, and the mythological beings of the Southeast Asian religious imagination. The Sanctuary is constructed entirely of teak and other tropical hardwoods using traditional joinery techniques (no nails), and the hundreds of craftsmen who work on the constantly expanding carved surface represent one of the last large-scale exercises in traditional Thai woodcarving.
