Isole del Rosario, Immersioni e il Parco Marino di Cartagena
The Islas del Rosario (the 27-island coral archipelago in the Parque Nacional Natural Corales del Rosario y San Bernardo, 45 km southwest of Cartagena) offer some of the finest coral reef scuba diving and snorkelling in Colombia, with the extraordinary water clarity of the Caribbean, the elkhorn and brain coral formations, and the diverse marine life of the Colombian national marine park.

Isla Grande — Mangrove Kayaking & Coral Gardens
Isla Grande (the largest of the 27 Rosario Islands, 45km from Cartagena) has no cars, one village, and 8km of mangrove-lined shore — kayak rental allows independent paddling through mangrove channels where nurse sharks rest in the shallows; the coral gardens on the island's windward side have the highest coral cover of any reef in the Colombian Caribbean.

Corales del Rosario National Park — UNESCO Coral Biodiversity
The Corales del Rosario National Park (58,500 hectares) protects 30 coral species, 60 sponge species, and 200 fish species including goliath grouper (up to 450 kg), green turtles, and spotted eagle rays — the park charges a 15,000 COP entrance fee; anchoring on coral is prohibited and park rangers enforce no-contact snorkeling rules.

San Bernardo Islands — Even More Remote Alternative
The San Bernardo Archipelago (90km from Cartagena, 2.5-hour boat ride) is less visited than the Rosarios and has exceptional coral health — Isla Múcura offers all-inclusive eco-lodge stays with night snorkeling; Tintipán island has shallow seagrass beds where manatees are occasionally sighted feeding at dawn.

CEINER Aquarium — Sharks, Rays & Dolphin Shows
The Ceiner Aquarium on the Rosario Islands (Colombia's only oceanarium) houses Caribbean reef sharks, manta rays, sea turtles, and freshwater dolphins in open-water enclosures — the dolphin-interaction programs are controversial among conservationists but remain popular with Colombian family visitors; tickets are bundled into most Rosarios day trips.

Underwater Photography — Soft Coral & Visibility
The Rosario Islands offer Caribbean underwater visibility of 15–25m and a photogenic mix of hard coral (star, brain, elkhorn) and soft coral (sea fans, sea plumes) with colourful sponges — purple tube sponges reaching 2m tall are the signature image; the clearest water is on the leeward (western) sides of the outer islands.

Playa Blanca — Cartagena's Most Famous Beach
Playa Blanca (Isla Barú, 1 hour from Cartagena) is a 1.5km strip of powder sand facing the Caribbean — day trips from Cartagena include the journey via the Dique Canal (with flamingos visible in the mangroves); the beach is lined with hammock rentals (20,000 COP/day) and seafood puestos serving the coconut rice and fried fish that defines Colombian Caribbean cuisine.
