Cameron Highlands Waterfall & Stream Walk
Discover Cameron Highlands' highland streams and waterfalls — the cool, clear rivers and waterfalls that drain the highland plateau provide the most refreshing natural swimming and hiking destinations in the hill station, with trails leading through primary forest to falls that were favourite excursion destinations for the British colonial community and remain the most popular nature walks for contemporary visitors.

Lata Iskandar Waterfall
Lata Iskandar waterfall near the entrance to Cameron Highlands at Ringlet is the first major waterfall encountered on the route up from the lowlands — the two-tiered cascade dropping about 40 metres over granite boulders into a clear pool is visible from the road and has been the traditional first stop for visitors from Kuala Lumpur for generations. The waterfall marks the transition from the lowland tropical forest into the cooler highland environment, and the clear cold water of the pool at its base provides a natural cooling station after the drive up the winding highland road.

Sg Palas Highland Stream
The Sungai Palas (Palas River) that runs through the BOH tea plantation is the most accessible highland stream in Cameron Highlands — the clear, fast-flowing river with its cold water (temperatures of 15-18°C) and the tea plantation landscape visible on both banks can be accessed from the plantation visitor trail. The stream is habitat for the highland fish species (freshwater barbs, mountain stream loaches) that have adapted to the cool, fast-flowing highland rivers, and the stream banks support the highland riparian vegetation of tree ferns, wild bananas, and the larger-leafed vegetation of the permanently moist stream margins.

Parit Falls Swimming Pool
Parit Falls near Tanah Rata has a natural swimming pool at its base that is the most popular natural swimming destination in Cameron Highlands — the clear, cold pool under the falls (water temperatures of 16-18°C in a highland environment where the air temperature is rarely above 25°C) is both refreshing and bracing, providing the most distinctively highland physical experience available to visitors. The trail to Parit Falls through the secondary forest takes approximately 20 minutes from the trailhead near Tanah Rata and passes through forest with visible wildlife (highland birds, butterflies, and occasionally small mammals) that makes the walk as rewarding as the destination.

Sungai Bertam Highland River
The Sungai Bertam (Bertam River) that drains the main Cameron Highlands plateau southward to join the Perak River at the lowland edge is the principal river of the highlands — the river that supplies the drinking water for the highland communities and the irrigation water for the vegetable farms runs through the most developed part of the highlands. The highland river system is under pressure from the intensive agriculture in the valleys above, with water quality monitoring showing the impacts of fertiliser and pesticide runoff from the vegetable farms on the river's ecology, representing one of the most significant environmental challenges in the contemporary Cameron Highlands.

Robinson Falls Jungle Walk
The trail to Robinson Falls is the most complete jungle walk accessible from Tanah Rata — the 45-minute trail through primary montane forest passes through a landscape of large dipterocarps, tree ferns, wild gingers, and the characteristic plants of the lower montane forest zone before reaching the waterfall at the forest edge. The trail demonstrates the immediate transition between the cultivated highland landscape of the hill station and the primary forest that begins where the agricultural and residential development ends, providing a micro-experience of the forest-farmland boundary that defines the Cameron Highlands' environmental challenge.

Brinchang Forest Reserve Streams
The forest reserve above Brinchang town contains the headwater streams of several highland rivers — the streams in the Gunung Brinchang forest reserve flow through the mossy forest zone where the cloud forest maintains permanent moisture through condensation from the daily mist. The headwater streams in the mossy forest, running clear over the granite bedrock with minimal silt (the undisturbed forest root systems prevent erosion), represent the pristine highland water quality that is lost as the streams descend through the agricultural and residential areas of the lower highlands.
