The hills east of Exmouth township provide the closest dark sky viewpoint — just 5 km from town, the ambient glow of Exmouth's 2,500 residents is the only visible light pollution, and the zodiacal light in autumn and the Milky Way core in winter are clearly visible.

Cape Range National Park after dark is one of the finest night sky locations in WA — the absence of any significant settlement within 200 km to the south, and 1,000 km to the north, means the horizon is completely dark in all directions except the faint glow from Exmouth.
