Dive Centres Air Batang
The dive centres at Air Batang village are the primary access point for Tioman scuba diving — the established dive shops (offering PADI Open Water courses, fun dives, and advanced diving for certified divers) have been running from the same ABC beachfront locations since the 1990s, building up an accumulated knowledge of local dive sites, marine life patterns, and the best conditions for each site. The dive centres' knowledge of the marine park regulations, the no-anchor zones, and the specific sites where particular species can be reliably encountered makes a guided dive with a local operator significantly more productive than independent diving on Tioman.

Chebeh Island Deep Dive
Chebeh Island (Pulau Chebeh) northwest of Tioman is one of the island's premier advanced dive sites — the submerged pinnacles around Chebeh descend to 30-40 metres and are swept by currents that bring the pelagic marine life (barracuda, trevally, hammerhead sharks during the shoulder seasons) into visibility range. The vertical walls and pinnacles at Chebeh, covered with sea fans, soft corals, and sponges that thrive in the nutrient-rich current-swept waters, provide a dramatic alternative to the more gradual reef slopes at the bay sites closer to the main island.

Tiger Reef Advanced Site
Tiger Reef is one of Tioman's most exciting dive sites for experienced divers — the reef structure in the island's southern zone features dramatic underwater topography with overhangs, swimthroughs, and boulders covered in marine growth, combined with the strong currents that make the site appropriate only for divers with experience in current diving. The leopard sharks that rest on the sandy patches between the reef structures at Tiger Reef, the white-tip reef sharks that patrol the current-swept walls, and the occasional whale shark reported at this site during plankton blooms make Tiger Reef the most reliably exciting wildlife dive on Tioman.

Magicienne Rock Dive
Magicienne Rock north of Tioman is named after HMS Magicienne, a British naval vessel that was reportedly sunk near this location in the 19th century — the submerged pinnacle rising from deep water has strong currents and abundant pelagic life, making it one of the most exciting open-water dive sites in the Tioman area. The site requires boat access (approximately 30 minutes from Air Batang), good weather, and an experienced divemaster familiar with the current patterns, but rewards these requirements with some of the best large-pelagic encounters in Malaysian waters.

Batu Malang Beginner Reef
Batu Malang near Tekek is Tioman's best beginner dive site — the gentle sloping reef in 5-15 metres of water with minimal current and good visibility provides the most forgiving environment for novice divers completing their first open-water dives after pool training. The reef's healthy coral coverage, the abundant and approachable reef fish, and the easy water conditions make Batu Malang the standard site for first-dive experiences on Tioman, and the density of marine life in the shallow reef zone ensures that beginners see substantial underwater biodiversity despite limited depth range.

Tioman Whale Shark Encounters
Whale shark (Rhincodon typus) sightings in Tioman waters have increased since the marine park designation reduced fishing pressure and allowed the plankton-rich upwellings that attract these filter-feeding giants to re-establish seasonal patterns — the whale shark, the world's largest fish (reaching 12 metres in length), is now reported several times each season at Tioman, with the peak sighting period during the inter-monsoon months (March-April and September-October) when current patterns concentrate the plankton on which whale sharks feed. A whale shark encounter during a Tioman dive is the most memorable marine wildlife experience available in Malaysian Borneo waters.
